Claire Fitzgerald

Claire is designated a Leading Lawyer by Wiselaw. Claire is located at our Head Office and covers the following areas:-

Claire joined Barrett & Thomson 1982 and became a Partner in 1997. Claire is a member of Law Society Children Panel since 1996 and is authorized to act for Children and Parents. SFLA accredited specialist since 2002 in Domestic Abuse and Private Child Law. Bucks & Berks Region of SFLA: Treasurer 1990-2000; Chairman 2000. Founder member Slough Domestic Violence Forum and Co-ordinator of Injunction Hot Line.

Membership: – SFLA, Association of Lawyers for Children; NALGARO; Steering Committee Slough CLSP.

Kate Matharoo

Kate is located at our Head Office and covers the following areas:-

  • Residential Conveyancing

Kate joined the firm in 1994 and became Department Head of the Residential Conveyancing Department in 1995. She has been Managing Partner of the firm since 1997.

Kate has over 20 years experience in the conveyancing field. She deals with all aspects of residential conveyancing, both in relation to private and corporate clients. She has the ability to offer sound technical legal advice with a practical approach. During her time with the firm she has imposed strict quality controls and as a direct result she is on the approved panel of several of the leading relocation companies. This has led to a steady structured growth in number of the personnel in the Conveyancing Department.

Kate also has joint responsibility for the management of the practice as a whole.

Charan Juttla

Charan specialises in Family Law. She was admitted in September 1999.

Charan enjoys travelling and reading and is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.

Sue Scott

Sue Scott is a senior solicitor and has many years experience in all aspects of family law including:

  • Divorce
  • Change of name
  • Separation agreements
  • Pre nups
  • Ancillary relief
  • Contact /residence disputes
  • Domestic abuse – Injunctions
  • Child abduction

Sue studied Law and the Legal Practice Course at West London University. She was admitted in January 2004 and joined Barrett and Thomson Solicitors in December 2009.

Sue enjoys spending time with her dogs, going to the gym and Zumba exercise classes, going shopping and going on holidays.

Sue is a Resolution accredited member and is the treasurer of the local resolution group. She is a member of the local domestic violence forum.

 

Tracey Haynes

Tracey was admitted as a solicitor in September 2001.

Member of Law society’s children panel 2009- Members will have shown, to the satisfaction of the Law Society, that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge, skills, experience and practice in the area of children law.

Approaching 12 years qualification – extensive experience in all areas of family law including children act , financial matters and protection from Domestic Violence. Represent all parties in family proceedings including children. Broad range of experience in family issues such as divorce, associated financial matters and issues relating to contact and residence. Ddealt with many vulnerable clients in relation to domestic violence issues. She also undertakes Public Law work relating to children. She is able to provide sound legal advice whilst maintaining a good common sense approach

Rizwana Khan

Miss Rizwana Khan is a member of Law Society’s Children Panel – The Children Law Accreditation Scheme which covers all types of children law work. Members of this panel will have shown, to the satisfaction of the Law Society, that they have and will maintain a high level of knowledge, skills, experience and practice in the area of children law.

Miss Khan was admitted as a solicitor on 15th September 2004 and on 1st August 2011 became a Member of Law Society’s Children Panel enabling her to represent children in both private law and public law cases. Miss Khan has a wide range of expertise within all family law matters specialising in care proceedings. Since becoming a Member of the Law Society’s Children Panel she has represented children and their Guardians in care proceedings and has also been instructed in private law rule 16.4 appointments.

Miss Khan regularly attends County Courts and Family Proceedings Courts to carry out her own advocacy on her own cases and acting as an agent for other solicitors. Miss Khan has represented clients at all levels of the family court system and has expertise of representing clients who are vulnerable and have mental health difficulties and learning difficulties. Miss Khan has also dealt with proceedings where she has been instructed by the Official Solicitor

Miss Khan has dealt with some very complex cases involving non-accidental injury, sexual abuse and cases involving trafficking of children. Miss Khan has dealt with many vulnerable clients in relation to domestic violence issues.

Miss Khan is very passionate about her cases and is able to provide her clients with realistic and constructive advice, delivered with empathy and respect.

Gurdeep Prit

Career

Admitted as a solicitor in 2012, Gurdeep’s career has quickly prgessed to becoming a supervisor . She covers all areas of civil litigation & multi track cases. However, she has a particular specialism in Housing Law including the following:

  • Representing vulnerable tenants on Housing issues covering, possession claims, homelessness appeals, anti-social behaviour injunctions
    including committal proceedings and unlawful evictions;
  • Drafting agreements and notices for private landlords to issuing pleadings, representation at court and instructing bailiffs

Sunita Suman

Sunita joined Barrett and Thomson’s in January 2012.

Sunita is a valued member of our Wills and Probate team. Sunita specailses in Writing Wills, Lasting Power of Attorneys, Trusts, Probate and Court of Protection Orders. Sunita receives excellent feedback from all her clients, she understand that situations can be difficult and require delicate handling.

Outside of the office, Sunita enjoys travelling, theatre and socialising with friends and family.

Saran Goyale

Saran started with the firm in 2005 as the IT manager but has worked his way up to the Practice Manager.

Saran also launched a subsidiary company, Barrett and Thomson Estates (www.bt-estates.co.uk) in 2010.

He plays a key role in the day to day running of the firm whilst continuing to develop the business.

Jane Dean

Jane has been a pivotal member of Barrett and Thomson for over 20 years. Jane started as the receptionist and has progressed to become the Accounts Manager and is a member of the Institute of Legal Finance and Management.

Jane’s role is central to the smooth and efficient running of the accounts departments for Barrett & Thomson, Solicitors and Barrett & Thomson Estates. Jane’s numerical abilities ensure the accounts are run to a very high standard. Bank reconciliations for all accounts are done on a daily basis. Large amounts of money and audits are handled competently.

Jane’s role as Accounts Manager is a very demanding one, which she takes in her stride. Jane’s role as Accounts Manager carries a great deal of responsibility as she deals not only with partners and staff, but with all the financial transactions of Barrett and Thomson, Solicitors and Barrett & Thomson Estates, which she carries out with great professionalism and efficiency.

Jane is a very valued member of Barrett and Thomson.

Angela Brennan

Angela joined Barrett and Thomson in July 1998 as our Receptionist, having worked as a Receptionist for a Firm of Solicitors in Ealing.

Angela is very much “front of house” as she is usually the first person Clients talk to on the phone and the first person they see when they call into the office. Angela is a naturally very calm person and this shines through in her approach to her work. Clients are always quickly put at their ease, especially in what are sometimes stressful situations.

Herpreet Kharay

Herpreet joined us November 2006 and started as Office Junior. She became a legal secretary whilst studying her LPC providing her with invaluable knowledge and experience.

Herpreet currently is learning a new side to the business in Barrett and Thomson Estates and developing the business as a whole.

Her interests include cooking, travelling and reading.

Herpreet completed her LLB law degree at Kingston University and completed the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford.

Kelly Saran

Kelly has 17 years experience in the legal profession. She started working at Barrett and Thomson in April 2004.

Kelly enjoys watching Formula 1 racing and is a passionate football supporter.

Rani Johal

Rani has over 15 years experience in the legal profession. She has worked at Barrett and Thomson for over 11 years.

Janice Gilder

Janice has 28 years of experience working in the legal profession. She has been part of the Barrett and Thomson team for 12 years. In her space time, she enjoys drama, theatre, cinema, reading, creative writing, walking, swimming and cycling.

Prairna Kanwar

Prairna joined Barrett and Thomson in January 2015 after completing her LLB Law with Business degree in 2013 and then went on to complete the Legal Practitioners Course in 2014. She then started as a Paralegal in Barrett and Thomson’s family department dealing with Public Law and Private Children Act matters. Prairna qualified as a solicitor under the Law Society’s period of Period of Recognised Training scheme in 2019 and is now a member of the Wills and Probate department.

She is able to assist with administration of estates by obtaining Grants of Probate/Letters of Administration, Will writing and Lasting Power of Attorneys.

Her caring manner and composure compliment her pragmatic and efficient approach.

Outside of the office, Prairna enjoys travelling and socialising with friends and family.

Filip Bakardzhiev

Filip joined Barrett and Thomson in January 2020 as a Paralegal.  Became a trainee in October 2021 and qualified as a solicitor in April 2023.

He now has a full caseload of Divorce, Finances, Domestic Abuse and Children Act Matters . He has a keen interest in advocacy and has represented clients at Court in relation to Domestic Abuse, Ancillary Relief and Children Act matters.  He also aspires to qualify as a Solicitor-Advocate later this year.  He is fast gaining a reputation locally and is taking over the conduct of cases for clients in some very complex areas of law, with a particular interest in matters involving complex trauma and parental alienation.  Though he specialises in Family Law, he also assists client with Housing law matters in relation to possession, homelessness and harassment matters.

Filip has undertaken a LAA supervisor’s course and is hoping to qualify as a supervisor at the earliest opportunity.

Languages: Fluent in Bulgarian and German, with working proficiency in French and Russian.

Education: Law (LLB) from King’s College, London; German Law (LLM) from the University of Bonn; (MA) Philosophy from the University of Buckingham;  LPC from the University of Law, Bloomsbury.

Vivian Akinbanjo

Admitted as a solicitor in 2022, Vivian joined the firm in March 2023. She fitted in immediately and has very quickly has become an integral part of the team. She has gained a lot of experience working in the firm’s Family department.

Her client care is excellent, and she has rapidly acquired a good reputation with clients, other solicitors and third parties.

Vivian undertakes all types of private law family work: domestic abuse, children law, Divorce, financial provision and is fast expanding her areas of knowledge & expertise.

Vivian is also a Resolution member, taking a non-confrontational approach to ensure minimal acrimony for the clients at a very difficult time in their lives. She represents their position and their needs. She considers affordable payment plans for clients who are not eligible for Legal Help/Aid.

In relation to Domestic Violence, Vivian is often referred clients from DV Agencies, including Sewak Housing and Hestia. She represents vulnerable clients or victims of domestic violence.

Vivian advises in financial issues, including Financial Remedy, Section 37 Proceedings, TOLATA.

In the area of Private Children Law proceedings, she advises clients in Section 8 Orders; Child Arrangement Orders (Live With/Spend Time With), Prohibited Steps Orders, Specific Issue Orders and Appeals.

Vivian also advises clients with housing issues in areas such as homelessness, possession and disrepair.

Vivian is compassionate, she ensure her client get the best outcome by providing advice and service. She is dedicated to her work, she is reliable.

Vivian is keen to qualify as a supervisor at the earliest opportunity.

Katie Finnigan

Katie started working as a paralegal in the family department at the firm in October 2022. Later, in June 2023, she became a trainee. Her work involves dealing with domestic abuse, divorce, financial settlements, and children matters. Additionally, she is helping out in the Wills & Probate department. Here are her education details: – Undergrad from the University of Southampton – 2:1 – LPC MSc from the University of Law – Distinction Katie’s leisure interests include going to the gym and boating.
